Facebook Food Reviews & Thrifting with ColoradoWicker
Chelly from Colorado Wicker and I got together earlier this month to finally do something we’ve been discussing for too long.
Reviewing food purchased off of Facebook Marketplace and going thrifting together.
Chelly has been in the Colorado Thrifting community for awhile now, she’s what I would consider a Resident Thrifting Pro. What makes Chelly impressive in her business that she runs through her Instagram platform: Colorado Wicker and other mediums like Facebook Marketplace, Mercari and poshmark; is that she’s been able to pivot successfully from selling home decor and furniture to clothing from the same accounts while maintaining her current community and following. She is often the person I reference when giving examples of people who have successfully pivoted both their content and business style without losing a significant following.
But it’s not just Chelly’s success in business that has me admiring her, it’s how transparent, honest and friendly she is when you speak to her. I had reached out to her when I first began my Instagram Account: RetroDenverFinds , at the time I had neither a big following nor any impressive content on my page, but Chelly does not care about superficial statistics or a perfectly curated social media, she cares about you and how she can help answer your questions in the most helpful way possible. She treats every person she encounters with a kindness I’ve seen others reserve for close friends, and that is not to be taken for granted in a person when you encounter it.
I can go on about how amazing Chelly is for the entirety of this blog post, and thankfully in a good friendship like we have, I know I’ll have many more blog posts in the future to gush about how great she is in business and life.
FACEBOOK FOOD:
I discovered years ago that only were there people selling furniture for great deals, but FOOD.
For disclosure, I will add that I do not know if any of the food being sold if FDA approved, passes any health certifications, runs with a business license or anything along those lines. This is something I consider when purchasing something food related off of there.
Chelly had been rooting for my Instagram: RetroDenverFoods , an Instagram that I created to review all the food I purchased on Facebook marketplace. I started doing this to celebrate every furniture sale and it spun such a life in its own that I thought it deserved it’s own page.
The facebook food that Chelly and I reviewed was SWEET.
Churro Cheesecake Tacos AND Churro Cheesecake bars.

THRIFT TIPS FROM CHELLY:
Spending a day thrifting and eating with Chelly, I learned not just how to have some more confidence in myself. (She radiates it along with kindness.) but how to thrift like a professional in a way that maximizes time and experience.
MAKE RELATIONSHIPS AND BE KIND TO EMPLOYEES AT THE THRIFT STORE:
This is something I spoke about in my last post: ‘how to thrift like a pro’ and something that every pro thrifter knows. Chelly, being kind in nature doesn’t just create kind connections with employees for her benefit, but because it’s who she is. Relationships with employees are always a great way to check the pulse on your local community and understand how the deals being offered at your local thrift store work, along with any new sales coming up and the sections to check for specific inventory.
CHECKING PANT STYLES? CHECK FROM BOTTOM UP:
I asked Chelly what her strategy would be for looking for things like flare pants or leggings, how do you find those styles among the dozens if not hundreds of inventory items on the rack? Her strategy? Check from bottom up for styles like flare, cargo, etc. This will cut down your time significantly when searching.
SIZE DOESN’T MATTER WHEN THRIFTING:
THIS was shocking when Chelly revealed to me, that she does not often check small sizes or XS sizes. As a business owner, the majority of her audience base do not wear size smalls, but regardless of that fact she checks all the size racks because often when purchasing an item second hand, it is most likely that it has shrunk after being washed multiple times. A medium second hand shirt could fit as a small and a large second hand dress could fit as a medium etc. Haven’t found your dream second hand find? Maybe check the other sizes to see if they have what you need.
SPORTS GEAR, HIKING GEAR, CAMPING EQUIPMENT & ATHLETIC GEAR HIGH END BRANDS ARE OFTEN HIDING:
I don’t hike, or atleast not to a level where I can justify purchasing an expensive pair of shoes specifically for the activity. Chelly though manages to not only be a fantastic mother of two children, business owner, but also outdoor enthusiast. She’s well experienced in hiking and camping activities, as we were shopping together she showed me of how many of the items required for these outdoor activities require very expensive gear, gear that she gets for an incredible discount because she finds these items at the thrift store for incredibly affordable prices. Items that are often reserved for christmas lists or really hard prayers because of how highly priced they are. So if you know the brand name and item you’re looking for, be sure to stop at the thrift store before making that new investment. Often these items are in great or like new condition for great prices.
BIG thanks to Chelly at Colorado Wicker, for being such a great friend but most importantly for always taking time out of her day and life. Please be sure to give her a follow and support her page, she always has great finds for furniture and clothing.
